Working with the Education and Innovation department at PBS North Carolina, I get to create many assets for the Children’s Media and Engagement team and Rootle, PBS North Carolina’s 24/7 kids’ channel. As the lead designer for Rootle, I am responsible for maintaining the existing branding as well as creating sub brands for the programs under the Rootle umbrella. I also created the style guide for Rootle. I work on marketing materials including postcards, activity sheets, banners, decals, posters, standees, bookmarks, flyers, social media/display ads and more.
The team hosts many community engagement programs across the state:
1. The Rootle Roadster Tour is a series of pop-up events with free hands-on activities, games, demonstrations with community partners, PBS KIDS educational resources and more. Each stop of the Rootle Roadster Tour features learning experiences through purposeful play that families can enjoy together.
2. The Rootle Ambassador Program connects local educators, parents, caregivers and community leaders with PBS North Carolina and our vast resources for children. By having an ambassador in each county, we can get more curriculum-informed content and resources to the children of state.
3. Discovery Corners are learning nooks designed to engage children and families in a trusted community setting. At each Discovery Corner, children explore the building blocks of literacy, science, math and social-emotional growth—all through the power of play. The corners are donated to community spaces across North Carolina.
